Athletics
Augusta Prep recognizes the importance of both physical wellness and
organized athletics to the development of a child. Physical education
is an important part of Prep’s educational programming, with
age-appropriate classes beginning in preschool, daily classes beginning
in kindergarten and continuing through middle school. Extracurricular
athletics begin in Middle School, including offerings of ten sports and
thirty-nine teams to Middle and Upper School students. Prep believes
that athletic programs develop physical skills, enhance
self-confidence, encourage accomplishment, and instill in students a
sense of sportsmanship and fair play. Augusta Prep believes that all
students have something to contribute and that athletic participation
should be an opportunity afforded all students. Our athletic programs
encourage healthy competition and a love of the sport for the sport’s
sake.
Participation
in athletics also benefits students within the classroom as it teaches
them to set sensible goals, exercise self-discipline, and develop good
time-management skills. Some of the closest relationships are developed
on the field, both among teammates and between players and coaches,
most of whom are full-time faculty members.
